Teach Too: Nottingham College: working with SMEs to develop learners’ skills in the construction industry through work placements

Nottingham College worked in partnership with small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and micro businesses working in the construction and sustainability industries to provide structured work experience for Level 1 learners. Collaborating with Think Big Developments, which focuses on providing career support to people from deprived and challenging backgrounds, the project supported the college’s strategy to the T-Level reforms and Post-16 skills plan. This enabled 20 construction students to develop their vocational, employability and enterprise skills through structured work experience placements. As a result, learners have developed team building, communication and time management skills. In addition, collaboration was significantly enhanced between the college’s personal success staff and curriculum specialist, along with the employers.
